Externally fixed security grills are mostly fixed on windows, doors and gates in areas with high crime rates. Some are permanent while others open to give way or allow for the window or the door to open. They offer protection to the property inside the building as well as the window or the door on to which they are fixed. Permanent grilles comprise of welded bars that are fixed to the wall covering the open area. Despite offering the desired protection, fixed grilles makes it difficult to clean the windows or the opening over which they are fixed and are not ideal for opening that are potential emergency exits.
Opening grills are more suitable for residential premises. They may be hinged or slide to give way when necessary. Padlocks and other locking measures must be put in place to ensure this remains secured and offer the desired protection.
